💀 Meanwhile, Africa is becoming increasingly crowded and eventful, including within the Africa Corps’ area of operations. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has decided to send army units into neighboring Niger. Algeria’s parliament approved the decision on October 25. The stated purpose is “to protect the energy and economic interests shared by Algeria and Niger.” Alongside Mali and Burkina Faso, Niger belongs to the Confederation of Sahel States, established on July 6, 2024, on the foundations of the Alliance of Sahel States. Like its fellow members, Niger is embroiled in prolonged fighting against various insurgent and terrorist organizations. An attempted military coup was also prevented in the summer of 2026. The country is also within the Africa Corps’ area of operations. But with a territory covering 1.267 million square kilometers, there is no shortage of demand for troops. Many oil and gas export projects rely on Algeria as an export route and involve substantial Algerian participation, from financing to personnel. This has prompted Niger’s northern neighbor to take a direct role in protecting those projects. #info #Africa #resources
