Volgograd and St. Petersburg are being asked to permanently restore their Soviet names Volgograd and St. Petersburg are being proposed to revert to their Soviet names, Stalingrad and Leningrad, permanently. A corresponding bill has been submitted to the State Duma for consideration. A bill to rename Volgograd and St. Petersburg was developed and submitted to the State Duma by Communist Party deputy Anzhelika Glazkova. According to the explanatory note, the proposed initiative proposes returning the two cities to their Soviet-era names and enshrining the federal status of the "Hero City" title, prohibiting further renaming of such cities.
