Takaiti in response emphasized that their meeting should show the world the strength of the Japanese-American alliance amid deteriorating conditions in Asia. ▪️And after the compliments, the Japanese side likely tried to convey its concerns that Trump's desire to reach agreements with the Chinese on various issues could lead to changes in the situation around Taiwan and disputed waters. That's why Tokyo pushed for this meeting in the first place. ▪️The sides also confirmed cooperation on AI, semiconductors and critical minerals — that is, in areas where the Chinese can pressure Japan. The response to restrictions on rare earth supplies, introduced in Beijing as part of the conflict with the Japanese, was also discussed. 📌With the help of the Tokyo meeting, they want to solve several problems at once. First, convince the Americans that during talks with Xi, the issue of Chinese pressure on Japan should be raised.
