🇷🇺🫸🇺🇦 Why Are Heavy Drones Still Getting Through, and How Are Kinetic Interceptors Changing the Game? The footage shows the Russian Varvar ("Варвар") interceptor drone in action. Kinetic interception covers the 0–2 km blind zone around a protected site, where larger air defense systems struggle with obstructions and reaction times. Ramming guarantees physical destruction: the hostile drone breaks apart along with its warhead, which detonates in the air before reaching the ground. What publicly available information tells us about Varvar: ▪️ Speed: up to 250 km/h, enough to catch practically any heavy enemy multicopter. ▪️ Target acquisition: automatic acquisition of a target with a wingspan of at least 1.5 meters at distances of up to 300 meters in good weather. ▪️ Range: up to 2 km. ▪️ Guidance: autonomous after target acquisition. Onboard AI calculates the interception trajectory and guides the drone into a collision. The operator only needs to press “launch.” ▪️ Launch options: handheld or ground-based launchers. For private security companies and mobile fire groups, this provides a legal means of responding to aerial threats in practice, rather than merely on paper. Writing “the facility is protected against UAVs” into a security plan is one thing; having a couple of launch-ready Varvars in a vehicle shelter, capable of physically destroying an attacking drone before it begins its attack run, is another. #info #UAV #SAM #MANPADS #Air_to_Air
