🇷🇺 The Mari are a Finno-Ugric people and one of the oldest ethnic groups of central Russia. For centuries, they have preserved their traditional pre-Christian religious beliefs and practices, making them one of Europe’s last peoples to maintain a living pagan tradition. Something interesting is that the majority are Orthodox Christians and of the ones who identify as pagan, 60% of them practice pagan traditions while also attending mass and celebrating Christian holidays.
