😀 Weyland-Yutani armoured personnel carriers spotted in London during filming for the second season of Alien: Earth. The M577 APC from Aliens (1986) is a combat vehicle used by the United States Colonial Marine Corps and has become one of the most recognisable examples of fictional military hardware in cinema. In the film, this four-wheeled armoured personnel carrier is deployed on LV-426 to transport Marines across the planet’s surface. It also serves as a mobile command post equipped with communications and surveillance systems. The vehicle accommodates a crew of two, a driver and a section commander, along with 12 Marines. Its roof-mounted retractable turret carries two rapid-fire Republic Electric RE700 cannons, while a smaller rotating turret at the front of the hull is armed with twin 20 mm cannons. For the original film, a full-size M577 prop was built using a decommissioned Hunslet ATT77 aircraft towing tractor purchased from Heathrow Airport. The vehicle had to be significantly lightened, with dozens of tonnes of ballast removed to prevent it from collapsing the studio floor. Armour panels, gun turrets and futuristic bodywork were then added to give it its distinctive appearance. The APC’s interior scenes were filmed on a separate set because the actual vehicle was too cramped to accommodate the entire Marine squad.
