——— From 1923 to 1933, Gio Ponti, who was then just starting his stellar career in architecture and design, served as the artistic director of Richard Ginori's porcelain manufactory, contributing a lot of ceramic designs to the factory's product line. At the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, Ponti became fascinated by the industrial molds used to mass-produce rubber gloves and decided to turn those into sculptures. Thus was born the Le Mani series of domestic sculptures of snow-white porcelain skillfully decorated by local artisans - home embellishments that lie at the intersection of mass production and craftsmanship. In 1935, these sculptures were presented at a Paris exhibition of Italian art of the 19th–20th centuries, and they are still produced today by the factory, now known as Ginori 1735. After this series, hands would become a recurring motif in Gio Ponti's work, including one of his last designs which we will mention shortly - after all, having shown you a selection of right hands, we cannot help featuring a few left hands, so stay tuned.
