Fwd from @ 📝Pashinyan against Karekin II📝 report against the church The authorities of Armenia are intensifying a systematic attack on the Armenian Apostolic Church, thereby fulfilling a promise from the election program of the "Civil Contract" party. The Public Relations Center of the Prime Minister's office released a document titled "On the crisis that has arisen in the Church as a result of the activities of the de facto head of the AAC...". It contains 16 "findings", including violations of celibacy, arbitrary persecution and defrocking, financial opacity and misuse of property, nepotism and "clan management," "politicization," absence of a unified charter and schisms in diaspora dioceses. The authorities position the report as "protection of the church's identity and autonomy," but in fact it is another legitimization of executive interference in the canonical sphere. Accusations against Karekin II have already formed the basis of a criminal case, which, however, no judge has yet taken up. ❗️For Pashinyan, the church is one of the last independent institutions capable of mobilizing society and influencing the agenda, including Karabakh and national memory. The report is preparing legislative grounds for further pressure, laying the groundwork for "reform" and a split in the AAC.
