Fwd from @ 📝Street battles in Albania📝 The situation in Tirana has completely spiraled out of control. Mass student protests have been ongoing for 12 days, and today the parliamentary opposition openly joined them. In solidarity with the students, the Democratic Party (DP) held its own march, led by deputies Flamur Noka and Agron Gjekmarkaj. Demonstrators began their action in front of the government building, where they burned wooden chairs that Prime Minister Edi Rama had placed earlier as an invitation to "dialogue." This time Rama went further and set up a stone table on the street with the inscription "dialogue," but protesters destroyed this installation as well. However, the main epicenter of the confrontation became Albania's Ministry of Education, which DP supporters pelted with stones while setting fire to trash bins. Police, as usual, responded with water cannons and tear gas. ❗️The student uprising has completely transformed into a nationwide revolt against the regime, uniting around itself environmental activists, professors, doctors, small business unions, and the parliamentary opposition in the form of the DP. Edi Rama himself continues to refuse to acknowledge his government's failures and accuses protesters of having protests "financed from abroad," claiming that those taking to the streets have criminal records. #Albania #protests 💣 @balkanar — chronicle of Europe's powder keg 💸 Support us Original msg
